Port Blair, May 06: Inspector General Krishnaswamy Natarajan, PTM, TM, called on Lt Governor Lt Gen (Retd) AK Singh, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM at Raj Niwas on 06 May 14 on assuming command as the Commander, Coast Guard Region (A & N).
The Regional Commander during his meeting with the Lt Governor briefed about the performance of Coast Guard in protecting the Maritime Interest of A & N Islands. He discussed the Force accretion plans which are in anvil and assured the Lt Governor that the CG assets both surface and aircraft will always be ready to meet the emerging maritime challenges at sea. He further expressed his vision in developing Op Infrastructure growth of Coast Guard in A & N Islands to facilitate the Coast Guard Headquarters, New Delhi in Force Level augmentation.
The Lt Governor appreciated the role played by the Coast Guard in A & N Islands, particularly in conducting the Search & Rescue and Anti-Poaching operations in a most befitting manner. He expressed his deep satisfaction over the conduct of Coastal Security Exercises by the Indian Coast Guard in synergy with all stakeholders under the aegis of Andaman and Nicobar Command.
The Lt Governor, emphasized the need to enhance the surveillance efforts in Southern Group of Islands (SGI) by basing additional surface platforms at Campbell Bay and Kamorta Islands even though there are logistic and technical issues. The Regional Commander assured the Lt Governor that all out efforts would be made to protect the Maritime Interest of the A & N Islands and enhanced surveillance in the SGI.
