Port Blair, May 6: The Lt Governor reviewed the functioning of Sports and Youth Affairs Department today. A presentation was made to the Lt Governor by the Sports Department listing out details of the works done during the last financial year as well as proposals for the current financial year 2014-15. The action taken on the directions of the Lt Governor issued since July 2013 was presented to the Lt Governor.
Lt Governor announced a special allocation of funds to DC, N&M Andaman and DC, Nicobar for promotion of Sports. He directed the Department to take necessary steps for the proper maintenance and upkeep of the Netaji Sports Stadium. The Sports Department was also asked to take up the matter of posting of Deputy Director, SAI, Centre, Port Blair with the Sports Authority of India and also explore corporate sponsorships for the Island teams. He has further directed that the construction of the Multipurpose Sports Indoor Hall, Kanyapuram may be taken up on priority during this financial year and asked the Chief Secretary to take all steps in this regard, including adequate allocation of funds for the Sports projects.
