Port Blair, Mar 22: A total of 22 candidates have filed their nominations for the single Lok Sabha seat in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, which will go to polls April 10 in the phase 3 of the 2014 general elections.
Yesterday was the last date for filing nominations in A & N Lok Sabha Constituency and as many as eleven candidates filed their nomination papers today.
Since March 18 to yesterday evening Kuldeep Rai Sharma of Indian National Congress, Gaur Chandra Majumder of Bahujan Samaj Party, Sanjay Meshack of Aam Aadmi Party, Sushil Kr Mondal of Indian National Congress, R S Uma Bharatthy of Nationalist Congress Party, Mohd. Azuriddin of Nationalist Congress Party, K G Das CPI (M), V M Naidu Telegu Desam Party, Manika Rao of Telegu Desam party, Raghubir Singh of Samajwadi Party, N K P Nair of CPI (ML) (L), Anita Mondal of All India Trinamool Congress, Bishnu Pada Ray of Bharatiya Janata Party and nine Independent Candidates have filed nomination papers.
Kuldeep Rai Sharma of Indian National Congress and Bishnu Pada Ray of Bharatiya Janata Party are the main contenders of the LS seat of A & N Islands. The total number of voters in all three districts of Andaman and Nicobar Islands is 2,57,859, out of which 136357 are male and 121502 are female. The Election Commissioner is setting up total 386 polling stations in Andaman and Nicobar Islands to ensure convenience of voter and smooth polling in these remote and scattered Islands.
