Port Blair, Mar 16: With the announcement of the schedule for General Election -2014 and issuance of Notifications by the Election Commission of India (ECI) for the 16th Lok Sabha, the Office of the Returning Officer, A & N Islands Parliamentary Constituency (District Office, South Andaman) is geared up to receive the nomination papers from the contesting candidates. While reviewing the preparedness today, the Returning Officer, A & N Islands Parliamentary Constituency, Shri P Jawahar informed that nomination papers can be delivered by a candidate or by any of his proposers to the Returning Officer (Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman) or the Assistant Returning Officer (ADM) at the Room No. 2 (Chamber of Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman) of Office of the Returning Officer, A & N Islands Parliamentary Constituency (District Office, South Andaman) between 11.00 A.M. and 03.00 P.M. on any day (other than public holiday) not later than the 22nd March 2014 (Saturday).
The nomination papers will be taken up for scrutiny at the Office of the Returning Officer, A & N Islands Parliamentary Constituency on 24th March 2014 (Monday) at 1100 Hrs. Notice of withdrawal of candidature can be delivered either by a candidate or by any of his proposers or by his election agent who has been authorized in writing by the candidate either to the Returning Officer (Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman) or the Assistant Returning Officer (ADM) at the Room No. 2 (Chamber of Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman) of Office of the Returning Officer, A & N Islands Parliamentary Constituency (District Office, South Andaman)before 3 P.M. on the 26th March 2014 (Wednesday).
In the event of the election being contested in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Parliamentary constituency, the poll will be taken on 10th April 2014 (Thursday) between the hours of 07.00 AM and 06.00 P.M.
The RO further informed that the conduct of Elections in the Union Territory is a massive logistic exercise which also requires close co-ordination with various departments. The Office of the Returning Officer, A & N Islands Parliamentary Constituency (District Office, South Andaman) is working round the clock in order to ensure that all logistics are in place so that the Elections can be held in free, fair and transparent manner. He also sought utmost co-operation from the Political Parties for the smooth Elections in these Islands.
