Port Blair, Mar 21: The Valedictory of the two-day long Youth Festival of JNRM was observed on JNRM Campus today. Mr. B.S. Bhalla, Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Education) was the Chief Guest. A colourful cultural programme consisting of skits, dances and songs was presented before the Chief Guest by the students of JNRM on the occasion. Prizes for the competitions in various categories were given away on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering Mr. Bhalla congratulated the prize winners and all others associated with the Festival for the excellent performances. Sharing his views on conducting the Festival Mr. Bhalla said that festivals have become a part of the calendar of events in most universities and colleges. He felt that a suitable name should be given to JNRM youth festival and it should be organised every year without fail. Mr. Bhalla felt that the JNRM festival was a harbinger for an annual festival of the youth of Andamans involving other colleges also. He desired that the festival be held in the first or second quarter of the academic session so that it does not come in the way of exams.
Welcoming the Chief Guest Dr. Iqbal Ahmad, Principal, JNRM thanked him for his deep concern and vision for the development of the college. He explained the aims of the youth festival and how there was tremendous response from the students to take part in the competitions.
Two skits, Bhangra, Kohli and Nicobari dances and songs were presented by the students. The programme came to a close with vote of thanks by Smt. Pearl Devdas, Convener, cultural activities, Dr Vyas Mani Tripathi compeered the programme.
