Port Blair, Mar 11: As a follow up of the action points proposed by the Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services in Coordination Committee constituted by Lieutenant Governor, A&N Islands, a five days hands on training on Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) for diagnosis of animal diseases was initiated on 10.03.2014 at CARI, Port Blair. This training is first of its kind for the veterinary officers on advance tools for diagnosis of animal diseases prevalent in A&N Islands. During the first phase of the training, a total of six Senior Veterinary Officers participated in the training.
During the inaugural function of the training, Dr.S.Dam Roy, Director, CARI thanked the Director, DAHVS for deputing the SVOs to attend the training. He urged all the trainees to utilize the opportunity to learn latest disease diagnostic technique for implementing at the departmental laboratory and assured for extending technical support to establish such kind of facility. He also mentioned that CARI is going to conduct similar type of hands on trainings for analysis of feed and fodder for veterinarians and para vets
Dr.S.Shiv Kumar, Director, DAHVS thanked Director, CARI for organizing this training for the veterinary officers and requested his collogues to make use of this training for future strengthening of departmental laboratory. Dr.N.P.Singh, Jt.Director, DAHVS, also spoke on the occasion and asked the participants to utilize the training fruitfully. Dr.A.Kundu, Head, Animal Science Division welcomed the gathering and informed that CARI has established the advance facility for the diagnosis for FMD, Brucellosis, IBR, Salmonellosis etc., and in future also hands on training on molecular diagnostic tools will be conducted.
Dr.Jai Sunder, Course Director of the training briefed about the prevalence and incidence of livestock and poultry diseases in these Islands and the use of ELISA for the diagnosis of these diseases for effective control measures to make this Islands disease free. Following the inaugural function, he gave presentation on the basic principle and techniques of ELISA and demonstration on ELISA was initiated at Central Instrumentation Facility Laboratory, CARI.
