Port Blair, Mar 05: Three books titled-“Recreating the History of A&N Islands” by Mr. R.N. Rath and Dr. (Mrs) Nirupma Rath, “Memories of Andaman and Nicobar Islands” by M. Ahmed Mujtaba and “Volcano at Barren Island”, by Arif M Mustafa were today released by the Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) A. K. Singh, at a simple function held today at Raj Niwas.
In his brief address on the occasion, the Lt Governor congratulated the authors of the books for their literary contributions and efforts in bringing out books on the history and geographical facts of the Islands.
He stated that they will go a long way in not just educating the people of the Islands but also from mainland about the Islands. He further observed that writers and authors should base their writing on facts and research and added that aspects like inculcating the spirit of free enterprise among the youth should also figure in their writings. Suggesting that the authors should also write on the Post-Independence period of these Islands, the Lt Governor said that modernization and progress achieved after the Independence era has also to be documented and recorded.
He further stated that the Administration is bringing out a Coffee Table Book reflecting the beauty and glory of these Islands and called upon the authors and writers of the Islands to share their valuable contributions in the form of write-ups and articles for this Coffee Table Book.
Earlier, all the three authors shared their views on their books. The Chief Secretary, Mr. Anand Prakash, senior officers of the Administration, family members of the authors and prominent citizens of the Islands were present on the occasion.
