Port Blair, Feb 19: The Citizen Forum on Human Rights (CFHR) has demanded constitution of District Human Rights Authority in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
In a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor of A & N Islands, the State President, CHFR, Keshab Barikdar mentioned that the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is receiving innumerable complaints against the civilian authorities and to deal with this District Human Rights Authority is necessary for these Islands.
He has requested for the constitution of District Human Rights Authority for these Islands as per the guidelines of NHRC.
“The formation & functioning of the “District Human Rights Authority” would inculcate a sense of responsibility in the conduct of public officials and create faith and confidence among the people in the rule of law,” he added.
