Port Blair, Feb 19: A training centre for tailoring and Fashion designing under the aegis of the A&N State Cooperative Union came into existence in Dog Squad Colony of Pahargaon village today. Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Chairman, A&N State Cooperative Union graced the function as the Chief Guest.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said that the locality is situated though nearby Port Blair city, but it is very difficult to reach here since there no proper bus and other public transport service. Hence , if any candidate of this area desires to undergo training in any course he /she will have to spend much towards conveyance and tuition fees. Considering this aspect, Mr. Sharma said this centre is being opened here as a relief to the local residents who are desirous for undergoing such training. Mr. Sharma further said that according to the current census, there are almost 2 lakh women in A&N Islands, out of which a very few are in Govt./ Private service.
Near- about 50,000 women are associated with SHGs and NGOs. Rest 1,50,000 women remain engaged in household works. We need at last 10.000 to 15,000 ladies to be trained in such vocational courses- so that they may participate and contribute their efforts in the society- development and Nation- building.
Referring to one of our neighbouring countries, Mr. Sharma inform the assemblage that this country exclusively exports garments to all the south Asian Countries like Indonesia , Philippines, Myanmar, Singapore, etc, because in every household of the said country, women are trained in garment sewing/ tailoring and related works. If we can prepare such a squad in this Union territory – which is geographically very close to those South Asian Countries, we can get hold all those market by offering comparatively cheaper rates for the garments. We are getting our women folks trained in tailoring and fashion designing with that aim to achieve, Mr. Sharma inform.
Mrs. Sarsamma, Vice president Mahila Mandal while speaking on the occasion, urged to the beneficiaries of newly opened centre to be punctual, sincere and regular in attendance while undergoing the training. Mrs. Geeta also spoke on the occasion, who demanded for opening a beauty parlour centre in her area. Earlier, Mr. Anant Rao, Joint Secretary, A&N State Cooperative Union welcomed the gatherings. The programme concluded with vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Ram Lal, General Secretary, A&N State Cooperative Union.
