Port Blair, Jan 22: An Environmental awareness Walkathon with the theme “Go Green-Save Environment” was organized by Indian Coast Guard on 22 Jan 14 as part of 38th Coast Guard Day Celebrations-2014 from Marina Park to Coast Guard Indoor Sports Complex at Panipath Road covering a distance of 4 kms. The aim of the event was to spread the awareness about preserving the rich flora and fauna of the fragile ecosystem of A&N Island to the local populace besides also improving overall standard of fitness and physical well being of the CG personnel.
The event was flagged off by Inspector General VSR Murthy, PTM, TM, Commander Coast Guard Region (A&N) from Marina Park at 0600 hrs. Approx 275 Service/Civilian Personnel, Ladies and Children participated in the event. The event received an overwhelming response from the enthusiastic participants, who displayed banners/placards all along the route for promoting the theme. The event culminated at Coast Guard Indoor Sports Complex in an impressive ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, IG Murthy appreciated the enthusiastic participation of all personnel and CGWWA members for extending support to such a noble cause and lauded their efforts in reaching out to the local populace for generating awareness about environmental protection. He also complemented the Coordinators Commandant Satwant Singh, Officer-in-Charge MRCC (PB), Deputy Commandant Dinesh Kumar, Commanding Officer ICGS C-146 and their team for the efforts undertaken to ensure smooth and efficient conduct of the event.
