Port Blair, Jan 15: The Chief Secretary of Andaman & Nicobar Administration, Shri Anand Prakash, IAS, inaugurated a two day Flower Show, Fruit & Vegetable Show and Aquaculture Show on 14th January 2014 at Organic Horticulture Farm, Sippighat organized by Department of Agriculture in association with Agricultural Technology Management Agency as a part of ongoing Island Tourism Festival 2014. The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, lit the ceremonial oil lamp to inaugurate the show.
An array of different variety of locally grown vegetables and fruits collected from about 149 farmers of different villages of the South Andaman District are put on display at the show.
As a part of this event a Fruit recipes Competition was held and 15 participants displayed various items like Fruit Salad, Custard, Jack Cutlet, Fruit Fiesta, Puddings, Apple Kheer, Chaalta Khatta Mitha etc. which attracted the viewers especially children.
During this event, Flower Show competition was also held under the categories viz, Potted plants, Cut flower and Dry flower arrangement, Rangoli and floral bouquet there are on display at the show. About 25 participants from different parts of South Andaman district participated in this competition.
Demonstration-cum-display of Fresh water Fish and Prawn culture, Pearl Culture, Mussel Culture and Crab fattening was also an attraction for the visitors.
Self Help Groups (SHG) has also put their food stall at the venue. Large crowd both local as well as Tourists and Guest from mainland and abroad are visiting the show and taking keen interest to know about the locally produced agriculture products.
Among others dignitary, Secretaries, A&N Administration, the Chairperson, SSWB, Smti Ratna Kannan, Director (CARI), Dr.S.Dam Roy, PRI members and senior officers of the Administration also graced the occasion.
