Port Blair, Jan 09: Mr. G. Bhaskar , President of Andaman and Nicobar State Olympic Association along with its Secretary General of ANSOA meet the Lt. Governor , Andaman And Nicobar Island in Raj Niwas on 7th January , 2014 and discussed various issues for the development of sports in these Islands. The Secretary (Sports) and the Director of Sports , A&N Administration were also present in the discussion.
During the meeting , various other issue like strengthening of infrastructure development in various District levels, allowing the use of Sports Authorities’ infrastructure and equipments for the player of the Islands , granting permission for the players who are also the Government Servant to practice before taking part in any national events, fixing quota for appointment of sports person in various posts in the Department under the Administration, appointment of lady coach where girls children are involved in the team, synthetic track for athletes and austro turf for hockey, procurement of equipments for games, kayaking, canoeing, rowing and cycling, posting of coach for various games like badminton, volleyball, football, table tennis, hockey, taekwondo, karate , boxing, etc. to impart better training, revamping of State Sports Council more Sports Association, strengthening of the Department of Sports and adoption of national sports policy by the sports department were discussed in details.
In the meeting it was informed to Lt. Governor that lack of proper playing kits and equipments are a major issue for our teams to participate in the various tournaments being conducted on the mainland and therefore, he stressed the need of making available these kits and equipments to the players by the Sports Departments apart providing other incentives like increasing of allowances of food, travelling and accommodation etc.
During the meeting it was highlighted that the youths of these Islands do not have any kind of entertainment during evening hours and sports could be a good alternative for them to be focused.
The Governor had a patient hearing and assured the president of the A&N State Olympic Association that all positive measures would be taken for the development of sports in these Islands.
