Port Blair, Jan 03: The PCC President, Kuldeep Rai Sharma today flagged off two vehicles of Fisheries Federation which was purchased under subsidy scheme from Fisheries department and attended the meeting as Chief Guest on 1st January, 2013.
In his inaugural address, Kuldeep stated that there is tremendous scope in fisheries sector in these islands and to bring the federation at the peak they should opt for cooperative society, get loan from financial institutions and go for purchasing modern fishing vessels to get good catch of sea product which may be exported to mainland at the first instance after the fulfillment of the requirement of local populace.
Kuldeep has also urged the fishermen women to form self help groups and sale the fish in open market and left out catches may be used for preparing pickle for local consumption.
Kuldeep has also urged the need of preparing a fisheries policy in such a way that the catches of sea product is increased to such an extent that these can be exported and the islands earns good revenue and the unemployment issue is also solved to some extent.
In the function, the Chairman B Hema Raju of Fisheries federation requested the PCC President to take over full charges of the federation which is now running in bad shape and became financially weak to make it a viable unit. Hema has also stated that their federation has witnessed as to how various Cooperative sectors in these islands have reached to their peak point after taking over the charges by Kuldeep Rai Sharma .
Mr. Arif Murthaza, Dy Director Fisheries also spoke on the occasion.S Raju, Chief executive officer of Federation also spoke on the occasion. Vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. Shyam.
