Port Blair, Dec 24: The Sita Pur beach is one of the most favourite beaches of Neil Island but due to gross negligence the beach is fast losing all its charm.
Once upon a time the Beach used to have three massive natural caves, created by mighty waves but as no step was taken to preserve those caves all three caves have now slowly collapsed.
Today the beach wears a deserted look, though tour operators bring some tourists to the beach but due to many reasons tourists prefer to stay away from the beach.
Every day sea brings huge amount of garbage, mostly from countries like Thailand and Myanmar, which get deposited in the said beach. The beach is presently covered with empty plastic bottles and other garbage, which leaves a very bad impression about Andaman Tourism.
Moreover, the concrete stairs little downhill has been damaged and broken down by giant waves, which is yet to be repaired.
The worst part is that the road leading to No. 5 beach is in horribly bad shape. Sadly neither Zilla Parishad nor Panchayat is taking any steps to repair the stairs, causing great inconvenience to the tourists. Tourism Department is probably totally unaware about such gross negligence towards maintaining one of the most beautiful beaches of Neil Island.
In other beaches, story is not much different. There is no approach road for Bharat Pur or Laxmanpur beaches.
If this remains our attitude towards promotion of tourism then even in next 20 years Andaman’s Tourism Industry won’t be able to earn anything more than peanuts.
