Port Blair, Dec 19: Giving a strong message that encroachment on govt. land will not be tolerated, the Administration Department as part of its encroachment eviction drive removed nine tourist huts constructed by private person from Dolphin Resort premises of Tourism Department recently. The encroachment eviction drive which was jointly carried out by Revenue and Tourism Department resulted in retrieval of 689 sq. mtrs of land from the encroachers. Assistance was provided by APWD and local Police.
According to information, the boundary of the Dolphin Resort area was encroached by constructing nine huts adjacent to the Resort occupying 509 sq mtrs since 2007. Further, on the other end of the Dolphin Resort, another person had illegally occupied 180 Sq. mtrs of land & constructed an extension in the form of additional room and toilet block. The retrieved lands have been fenced by the APWD.
The eviction team was led by Tehsildar Port Blair, Shri Casper James, Patwari, Neil & Havelock, Shri Tapas Das and Shri TJ Mathew, Manager Tourism. The eviction drive which started at 10 am on Dec 13 completed in the evening.
