Port Blair, Dec.18: The RSC Open Football Tournament got underway in the JNRM Football Ground here today. The Chairperson PBMC, Shri K Ganeshan, who is also the Chairman Regional Sports Council (RSC) Port Blair, inaugurated the tournament as the chief guest. The tournament is being organized by RSC Port Blair.
Wishing the players good luck, the chief guest advised them to display fair play with the spirit of the game and friendliness. He said that such tournaments are organized for the promotion of football in the islands.
Earlier, the chief guest was introduced to the players.
The highlight of the day was the presence of former Indian Football Team Captain and International football player, Shri Joe Paul Anchery, currently in the islands for selection and coaching of under-17 football players. The inaugural match of the tournament was played between Marine Recreation Club (MRC) and SVC Phoenix Bay, in which MRC defeated SVC Phoenix Bay by 17-0 goals.
