Port Blair, Dec 02: Faulty design of Bus Stops in city is causing great deal of discomfort to Islanders. Most of the Bus Stops are either constructed by Government or are donated by various private organizations. But due to total negligence and lack of concern these Bus Stops are in horrible shape. Most of the Bus Stops have been designed in such a way that during rain it fails to provide any kind of protection to the public from rain water. Situation is further bad inside Bus stops, which have aluminum roofs. According to reports most of the roofs in these Bus Stops have developed leakage and during rain it pours badly inside.
Photo Graph of Bengali Club Bus Stop (Near Shompen Hotel) clearly shows dozens of holes on the aluminum roof and also public waiting for bus inside the Bus Stand with their umbrella open. One wonders why there is a need to construct such Bus Stops in city when it fails even to provide protection to public from rain and scorching Sun.
Public Complain that even new Bus Stops, which are being constructed by Port Blair Municipal Council in various wards, have major defect in design. These new Bus Stops constructed at Bhatu Basti and School Line area are neither good for protecting public from rain nor from blazing Sun.
Moreover, most of the Bus Stops in city have different design, shape and size and sadly none of these Bus Stops are upto the mark. This is high time for the concern authority to dismantle all these Bus Stops and finalize a uniform design for all Bus Stops after consulting with experts. This made for public must serve public or else the money spend for this purpose are considered as wasteful expenditure.
