Port Blair, December 2: Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd), A. K. Singh today gave away Census medals and certificates of honour to 17 field functionaries of the A&N Administration for their outstanding work during the Census 2011. These awards were given away at a simple ceremony at Raj Niwas this morning. Officiating Chief Secretary, Smt Rina Ray, Chairman, PBMC, Mr. K. Ganeshan, Adhyaksha, Zilla Parishad (SA), Ms Mariyam Bibi, Chairperson, Social Welfare Board, Smt Ratna Kannan, and senior officers of the A&N Administration were present on the occasion. Earlier, welcoming the Lt Governor and other guests, Shri P. Jawahar, Principal Census Officer, South Andaman District informed that altogether 17 field functionaries were awarded with the Census medals, of which 11 received Silver medals and six Bronze medals. The function concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by the Assistant Director, Census Operation, A&N Islands, Shri Amitabh Mitra.
