Port Blair, Nov 27: The Coast Guard Regional Headquarters (A&N) in its ongoing SAR efforts launched Coast Guard Dornier Aircraft and Helicopter CG 805 in the morning on 27th Nov 13 for Sea-Air Coordinated search with ICGS Varad and ICGS Aruna Asaf Ali for SAR and providing assistance to stranded fishermen.
The CG Helo carried out extensive search along the Coast of Chidiya Tapu, Wandoor, Tarmugali Island, Jolly Buoy, Ross Island and Twin Islands. During the search off Twin Islands, CG Helo sighted 07 fishermen stranded in area. All the 07 fishermen of missing fishing boats, Dhanalaxmi (Reg No. IND/AN/SA-mo-587) & Swathy were airlifted in two sorties by CG Helo and subsequently handed over to AD (Fisheries) South Andaman, after providing first aid and refreshments.
The rescued fishermen, all residents of Junglighat, informed that fishing boat Swathy has capsized near Twin Islands and 02 persons were still missing. Based on the information, the CG Helo was further pressed into action for the search of the missing 02 fishermen.
For SAR efforts at North Andaman, the CG Interceptor boats C-140 Ex-Diglipur and C-147 Ex-Mayabunder have been deployed for search of missing boats based on inputs received from Secretary (Fisheries).
Further, Coast Guard Off Shore Patrol Vessel Varad and ICGS Kankalata Barua have been undertaking search in area between wandoor and Little Andaman.
The Coast Guard Regional Headquarters (A&N), in it continued SAR efforts have remained in continuous touch with the Administration officials and the efforts have yielded results in rescue of 32 fishermen including safe escorting of two fishing boats till date, a communication from CG PRO said.
