Port Blair, Nov 27: The Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association has demanded compensation to the damages sustained by government employees during the cyclone and torrential rain which occurred in the islands on 25th November, 2013. In a letter sent to the Chief Secretary, A & N Administration, Shri D. Ayyappan, General Secretary of the Association, while appreciating the timely steps taken by the Andaman and Nicobar Administration to face the impending disaster of cyclone and torrential rain and the swift action on the part of the Disaster Management today, brought to the notice of the Chief Secretary that a number of government quarters have been badly affected by the disaster which occurred today (25.11.2013) in the South Andaman and North and Middle Andaman Districts. He said that reports reaching from different places indicate that areas occupied by government employees along with other areas have been inundated, water entering the quarters causing loss of property in a massive way. At Port Blair, there were damages to government quarters in many areas in the Junglighat government colony. Water entered the quarters at Mohanpura, DAG Colony, Junglighat etc and a number of vehicles were submerged. Shri D. Ayyappan has visited some of the affected areas at Port Blair.
He requested the Chief Secretary to instruct the authorities concerned to consider the cases of all those government employees whose household articles were damaged and vehicles submerged due to rain and cyclone at different parts of these islands, along with the cases of others, for adequate compensation, etc in order to extend some kind of relief to them.
