Port Blair, Nov 26: Under the banner of National Students Union of India, a wing of the Congress Party a huge number of unemployed youths, part time teachers, college students etc. of the city organized a peaceful but protest rally against inclusion of mainlanders in to compete for the posts in the services of Andama and Nicobar Administration.
“Congress Party is always for and of the people of these islands “ Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, President PCC said. Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma lead the rally which started from Junglighat School via Goalghar-Bengali club- clock tower-Hyundai show room-clock tower to Tiranga Park.
The main motto of the rally was to place the grievances of the unemployed youths through the Congress Party before the Government of India. The leaders leading the rally said that these islands have limited resources and there also lies very limited scope for jobs under the Administration and by opening of the limited employment sector to the mainlanders, it would not only invite influx of more people in the islands adding pressure to the limited natural recourses but also the interest of the local inhabitants will be snatched by them.
They also added that many years back when there was shortage of qualified locals, it was justified to call the mainlanders to the posts under Andaman and Nicobar Administration but since the local youths are now highly qualified and competent enough to be appointed in all the posts under the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, there should be total ban in recruiting the mainlanders to any posts under the A & N Administration as the islanders cannot get jobs in the vacancies of State Governments at mainland.
At the Tiranga Park, where the agitated youths gathered after the end of the rally, the President Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma told the youths that even the Lt. Governor is concerned about this issue and is trying its best to find out a way to solve the problems, he further added that the Govt. of India should also come forward for the welfare of the islanders and safe guard their interest. Mr. Sharma also assured them that the Party will always stand for the interest of the islanders. Leaders of the Congress Party also joined the rally along with the youth.
