Port Blair, Nov 20: The 28th Foundation Day of IGNOU was celebrated with pomp and gaiety at the Regional Centre Port Blair on 19th November 2013. On the occasion Dr. M. Shashikumar, Director, Anthropological Survey of India was the chief guest and delivered the foundation day lecture. Dr. Iqbal Ahmad, Principal, JNRM was the guest of honour & Dr. J S Manhas, Coordinator, IGNOU Study Centre, was the special guest for the function.
The function organized by the Regional Centre Port Blair of IGNOU was attended by staff and students of IGNOU Regional Centre & Study Centre. Speaking on the occasion, the Regional Director I/c Dr Kasturi S Pesala gave an account of the National Open University and its growth and travel through the last 28 years of its establishment. The role and commitment of the Regional Centre for the Human resource development in times to come was presented on the occasion. Chief Guest Dr. M. Shashikumar lauded the role of IGNOU expressed the importance of IGNOU in the national Human resource Development.
He also praised Regional Centre’s efforts in increasing the enrolment of learners in different courses over the years and expressed his happiness for introducing MA in Anthropology from this year which would be very beneficial for students of Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Prizes were distributed to staff for different competitions which were conducted as part of the Foundation day programme at the centre. The Programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Mr. Sanjiv Kumar Hira of IGNOU Regional Centre.A communication from IGNOU Regional centre said.
