Port Blair, Nov 05: In his letter to the Lt Governor PCC President Kuldeep Rai Sharma has stated that a large number of residents from all parts of the Islands are visiting Port Blair for getting treatment, attending interviews, proceeding to mainland and many other purposes and have to pay a huge amount for their boarding and lodging in private hotels, lodges, and guest houses. Most of such visitors are from middle or lower middle class background and feel it very difficult to stay at Port Blair for a couple of days due to heavy financial burden on them by paying for their shelter and foods.
Hence Kuldeep has requested the Administrator to consider a campus of cheap guest houses for the populace of various islands, viz Diglipur house, Mayabunder house, Rangat House, Kadamtala House, Baratang House, Neil House, Havelock house, Little Andaman House, Car Nicobar house, Nancowry House, and Campbell bay etc in the pattern of various guest houses constructed at Delhi for various States and UTs, at Port Blair, where the people of the particular island may stay in the particular guest house. Kuldeep has also requested that in all such guest houses, at least 20 rooms be constructed with two beds in each rooms.
Taking concern of the poor common islanders, Kuldeep has also requested the Lt Governor to consider fixing of rent @ Rs. 20/- per bed per day for the incoming local inhabitants from various islands to Port Blair and back from mainland after finishing their works.
