Port Blair, Oct 18: The District Administration, South Andaman conducted a workshop on Standard Operating Procedures(SOP) as a preparatory measure for the national level mock exercise at DC office at Port Blair this morning under the chairmanship of P Jawahar, Deputy Commissioner. Briefing on the proposed national level mock drill to be held on 20 -22 November this year , the Deputy Commissioner stressed on the need for effective coordination among various emergency support functionaries to improve the level of preparedness to face any disaster. He also appealed to all the line departments to put their best efforts to ensure the success of the mock exercise.
Mr Jawahar also informed that the District administration conducted the training for the Community Task Force(CTF) at Ferrargunj recently. Similar training programme will be held at Port Blair shortly, for the capacity building of the CTFs in their respective areas, he said.
During the interactive session, various queries raised by the nodal officers from different line departments regarding the SOPs and their specific role in the exercise were clarified. The Assistant Commissioner, Relief and Disaster Management explained the SOPs by the District administration, besides giving the details of 20 Tsunami sirens installed at the identified locations. Earlier, the Asst Director of Disaster Management made a power point presentation on the proposed mock exercise.
In the concluding session, the Deputy Commissioner informed that a table top exercise with all stake holders and Nodal officers will be conducted on 19th November at the Conference hall of DC office at Port Blair. (PIB)
