Port Blair, Oct 17: Thanks to the move of Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman District and also A & N Police to declare Monday (Vijaya Dashami Day) as Dry day. Unlike previous years, this year on Vijaya Dashami roads were far safer for public, especially ladies.
Just because of Dry Day, no was found dancing on roads, under influence of alcohol or creating problems for others. Moreover, almost all the Idols of Goddess Durga were immersed right on time. According to reports, all the Idols where immersed before 1.30 am, which used to be more than 3.30 am to 4.00 am in past years.
Due to absence of drunkards on road, the traffic arrangements were also under total control and in some cases ladies were also seen accompanying Idols for immersion, which was never seen before, in past.
