Port Blair, Mar 11: The Chief Secretary-in-charge, Mr. Jalaj Srivastava yesterday led the islanders in paying tribute to the pioneer freedom fighters of the first war for independence, to commemorate the arrival of the first batch freedom fighters in these islands in 1858.
At a solemn function held at the Chatham Memorial here yesterday morning, the Chief Secretary laid wreath at the Memorial as the chief guest. The Chairperson PBMC, Smt. Firdosh Bibi and the Chairperson SSWB, Smt. Ratna Kannan also paid floral tribute to the freedom fighters. Besides, the senior officers of the Administration, eminent citizens of the town, the Organizer, Swatantrata Sangram Senani Vanshaj Samiti, Mr. Madan Mohan Singh and its members also paid floral tribute to the freedom fighters on the occasion.
