Port Blair, Sept 30: A delegation of the Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association led by its General Secretary Mr. D. Ayyappan on 26th September, 20013 met the trained Nurses who are on a continuous Mass Dharna at Tiranga Park, Aberdeen Bazar, Port Blair.
Mr. D. Ayyappan, while addressing the trained Nurses, conveyed the Association’s support to the demands raised by them. He said that it is due to the ban on creation of posts and recruitment imposed by the central government that these trained nurses are not getting a permanent job in the Health Department.
He explained the nation-wide agitation being carried out by the government employees on the wrong policies of the government like (i) ban on creation of posts and recruitment (ii) privatization and outsourcing of government work, etc. The Association leaders, however, assured the trained Nurses that their demands will be brought to the notice of the Administration. The Association demanded that these trained Nurses should be engaged, atleast on contract basis, in the schools and Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS).
Some of these trained nurses had already served the Health Department on contract basis at different times and the Association is of the view that they should be given age relaxation while applying for regular vacancies of Staff Nurse. Mr. TS Sreekumar, Asst. General Secretary of the Association also addressed the agitating trained Nurses.
