Port Blair, Sept 22: The Defence Services Staff Course – 69 from Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, accompanied by Lt Gen Chander Prakash, SM, VSM, Commandant and Directing Staff are on a visit to Andaman & Nicobar Islands from 15 to 22 Sep 13.
Defence Services Staff College located at Wellington in Tamil Nadu, is one of the few institutions of its type in the world where training is imparted to aspiring Staff Officers of all the three Services – the Army, Navy and Air Force, as also selected officers of the paramilitary and civil services, and officers from friendly foreign countries.
On visits to various military components they were briefed on various aspects of the Islands. The environmental and ecological sensitivities of the Islands were focused on, such that future military leadership remains sensitive to the security vis-a-vis development issues of the A & N Islands..
Besides the Defence related activities which included an Amphibious Demonstration at Corbyn’s Cove, the group also visited places of interest in Port Blair including Cellular Jail, National Museum and Ross Island. The Commandant later called on Air Marshal PK Roy AVSM, VM, VSM, ADC Commander-in-Chief Andaman and Nicobar Command and discussed issues related to the unique unified common
“The visitors were greatly impressed by these pristine islands, with many expressing their desire to return here,” Col Harmit Singh, Command PRO, ANC said.
