He wrote to the Lt. Governor that the Cattle population in the city has increased and their owners are least bothered about the nuisance they create in the neighborhood as well as in the City centre.
He further informed him that , its seen that herds of cattle are left to stray on the city roads which creates unwanted problems to traffic as well as paints a very bad picture of our city in the minds of the tourists.
He also added that maintaining cleanliness and Hygienic conditions for the residents are the responsibility of the administration and PBMC and just for the sake of few cattle owners the Healthy environment of Port Blair cannot be compromised.
He also added that tourism is a source of employment and a lot of unemployed youths of these Islands have invested in this sector. And for this sector to prosper the required infrastructure , clean and hygienic conditions are a must.
He further suggested that for the livelihood of the Cattle owners grazing lands may be identified outside Port Blair limits. Space for sheds could be allotted in the lines of Industrial estate. Soft loans could be provided to the cattle owners to look after their own needs on the conditions that the cattle would be reared outside Port Blair limits.
He concluded the letter by requesting the Lt. Governor to direct the concerned authorities to strictly curb the cattle menace and if required increase the Cattle Pond fines to effectively implement the same.
