Port Blair, Aug 31: Much to the relief of general public of the capital city of A & N Islands, Port Blair, the Port Blair Municipal
Council has started shifting hundreds of pigs from Port Blair city to Brookshabad pig rearing sheds, located at the outskirt of the city.
Since last several years people of tourist hotspot, Port Blair city, especially those who are residing in Prem Nagar and Delanipur areas are demanding to ban pig rearing inside city and shift all the pigs to Brookshabad pig rearing shed, which has been repaired recently by the PBMC.
“We have shifted almost half of pigs to Brookshabad earlier but it is not possible to catch and shift all pigs in one day. Today we are shifting nearly 40 of those,” P B Murugan the Chairperson of PBMC told ‘Andaman Sheekha’ on Saturday.
Last month, a group of people had met the Secretary of Port Blair Municipal Council with the demanding of keeping Port Blair city free from Pig Menace.
“There are almost 300 pigs in our area alone. These pigs have made life horrible for us,” Shakti a resident of Prem Nagar told ‘Andaman Sheekha’ today.
Meanwhile, the Chairperson of PBMC has assured that the present shifting work will be completed without future delay.
“I believe in two more days all the pigs will be shifted to the Brookshabad pig rearing farm and in future there won’t be any problem from these pigs in Port Blair city,” Murugan added.
