Port Blair, August 29: The Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) A. K. Singh, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, visited Primary Health Centre, Tushnabad. He took a round of the hospital and interacted with the patients and inquired about the health care and other facilities provided in the hospital. Directions were issued to the Health Authorities and APWD to have the new block constructed expeditiously. He also directed the DHS to organise a health camp and visit of Specialists depending on the availability. Thereafter, the Lt Governor visited Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Ferrargunj. He inquired about the facilities and directed the Chief Engineer (APWD) to dismantle all old dilapidated structures within the school compound, which pose a danger to the children. He directed the Secretary (Education) to work on performance evaluation of the school teachers so as to improve the teaching quality of schools in the Islands. The Lt Governor also tasted the mid-day meal offered to the children of the school to ascertain the quality of the food.
Thereafter, he inspected the e-Patwarkhana at Ferrargunj. The Deputy Commissioner (SA) informed the Lt Governor that the e-Patwarkhana is the first of its kind in the Islands from where computerized land related documents will be provided to the villagers. The Lt Governor also gave away computerized copy of land records to some of the applicants. He also directed that such e-Patwarkhanas should also be opened in other Districts as well.
The Lt Governor also visited Abbhyuday Complex at Ferrargunj, where the Social Welfare Department maintains a home for the Aged, Neglected Juveniles and Physically Challenged children. He interacted with inmates and inspected the services being offered. He expressed his satisfaction on the overall management of the home and appreciated the efforts of the Department. He directed the Secretary (Social Welfare) to initiate a proposal for opening a similar home in North & Middle Andaman for the benefit of the under-privileged.
Later, the Lt Governor held a meeting with PRI members at the Panchayat Samiti Bhawan, Ferrargunj. Shri Mohd. Safiq, Pramukh, Ferrargunj Panchayat Samiti welcomed the Lt Governor. He highlighted various issues of the people of Ferrargunj. Other PRI members and the general public, who had gathered also submitted their problems to Hon’ble Lt Governor. The Lt Governor heard them patiently and issued directions to the concerned Departments to resolve these issues in a time bound manner. He also asked the District Administration and PRIs to develop a long term plan for the area.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the Lt Governor urged the PRI members and all government officials to work collectively for development of the Islands. He further stated that for proper and speedy development of the Islands, every institution concerned with the welfare of the people had to work in harmony with each other. He stated that his motto of “honesty”, “loyalty” and “dignity” and to the job interested. At the end, the Lt Governor visited the Agriculture Progeny Farm at Jirkatang. He took a round of the farm and issued directions to Director of Agriculture to open up the farm for tourists by developing it as an agro-tourism centre. He also interacted with members of the Self-Help Group, who are making a living by selling agriculture produce.
