Port Blair, Aug 20: Along with other parts of the Islands, the Congress Party also observed the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Late. Rajiv Gandhi. At the outset the Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, President, PCC garlanded the portrait of Mr. Rajiv Gandhi as a mark of respect followed by floral tribute by other senior leaders, PRI members etc.
In his brief speech Mr. Kuldeep stated that Rajiv Gandhi was the one who had modified that voting right of the youths from 21 years age to 18 years age and developed Information technology in India.
Mr. Kuldeep also said that the birth anniversary of Ex-Prime Minister of India, Mr. Rajiv Gandhi is observed as Sadbhavana Diwas which is to promote national integration and communal harmony among the people of all caste, creeds and religions.
The day is also observed as Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas because Mr. Rajiv Gandhi had the vision for providing electricity to all rural and remote areas of the country, said Mr. Sharma and has appealed that we should always be kind and affectionate to everybody and also should try to utilize renewable sources and be a part of sustainable development of the Islands. Sadbhavana pledge was administered by the PCC Chief on the occasion.
