Port Blair, Aug 14: The Pradesh Mahila Congress organized a conference at Pathargudda Community hall on 12th August, 2013 on the subject “Role of Women in Panchayati Raj Institution”.
In his inaugural speech Kuldeep Rai Sharma the PCC President stated that Secularism, communal harmony and brotherhood are the main base of UPA Government and the Congress Party and all government policies and planning have been prepared accordingly.
He said that this is the responsibility of the workers of the Party to go to everybody and make them fully aware the policies and planning of the UPA Government such as Right to Education, Right to Food, RTI, MNEREGA, NRHM, Bharat Nirman etc and ensure that these are being implemented at every corners.
Talking about the local burning issues raised by many speakers such as bad conditions of road, scarcity and unfiltered water, providing new pipe line connection to general public, Sharma told that the Party is trying its best to solve these problems with the help of the local Administration. Sharma has also requested the Mahila Congress leaders to put more thrust on the issues of self employment of women by forming more and more Self Help Groups and Cooperative Society.
He also said that the safety of women and making them physically and mentally healthy should be our one of the most important duties. He has also stated that there should be separate buses for the transportation of working women and College girl students etc. He has also told the gathering that the Party has taken initiative with the Local Administration and at the Ministry level for opening of Medical College, Women’s college, another degree college and University in these islands. Sharma has also told that the developments presently available in these islands, are the efforts of the Congress Party only. He also spoke on the issue of women empowerment.
Mr. Sharma recorded his appreciation towards the former Prime Minister Late Rajiv Gandhi who has given reservation for women in Panchayati Raj institutions. Most of the speakers told that the Congress Party is the only Party which can unite the society together and take the Nation towards real development. They have also spoke on the issue of the importance on participation of women in Politics. Many have remembered the former Prime Minister smti Indira Gandhi for her efforts of uplifting the women in all the fields. They have also recorded their faith on the dynamic leadership of Smti Sonia Gandhi, the UPA Chairperson with whose efforts India got her first Women President.
They have recorded their proud that the speaker of Loksabha is a lady where as at present these Islands are also having Smti Abala Samaddar as Adhyaksha Zilla Parishad and Smti Ratna Kannan, as Chairperson, SWB. Shri Jag Narayan, RV Reddy, Manickam, Ratna Kannan, Mariyam Bibi, RP Singh, Sanjay Meshak, Sanjiv Rangaiya, Neela Devi have also spoke on the occasion while Smti Shanta Singh, President, Mahila Congress has proposed vote of thanks and talked about the women power. In her speech she has called on the womenfolk to be united to fight against social evil forces and strengthen the hands of Kuldeep Rai Sharma.
