Port Blair, Aug 12: Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, President, PCC has requested the Lt. Governor for allowing one time age relaxation to all the waiting nurses so that they may appear for the interview and try their luck in the ensuing interview of Staff Nurses. In his letter Mr. Sharma has written that from sources this has come to his notice that after long waiting, 18 posts of Staff Nurses have been made available for recruitment in the Andaman and Nicobar Health Department and as per the terms and condition of recruitment of the DOPT the age limit has been fixed as 30 years.
In this connection, Mr. Sharma has submitted a letter to the Lt. Governor for his consideration about 500 odd trained staff nurses who are waiting to get jobs as Staff Nurse since many years and he also informed that during this long period of waiting many have crossed the prescribed age limit due to the reason of non availability of posts in the Health Department. Mr. Sharma has also stated that many such aspirants are having family burden on them and they have to look after their elderly parents and children and cry for not being able to perform their duties for their dependents. In some cases both, husband and wife are jobless in these hard days and many nurses leading the lives of elderly spinsters due to the fact that they are unemployed.
All these nurses, being influenced by Florence Nightingale and with a hope to serve the sick persons of these Islands, have undergone the proper training in nursing but still waiting for their hope to serve the Islands as Nurses. Mr. Sharma has also stated that in almost every department of Andaman and Nicobar Administration direct recruitment process has not taken place for over six years, i.e. from 2005 to 2011 due to occurrence of Tsunami followed by amendments in Recruitment Rules as recommended by the DOPT for implementation of 6th Central Pay Commission recommendation.
Mr. Sharma has thus requested the Administrator to consider the cases of unemployment problems prevailing in these Islands and also non availability of vacancies to the posts of Staff Nurse and to confer his special powers for allowing one time age relaxation to all the waiting nurses so that they may appear in the ensuing interview of staff nurses and try their luck.
