Port Blair, Aug 11: Andaman and Nicobar Police on Saturday arrested a notorious burglar, Mohd. Firoz from one of the city lodges and recovered golden ornaments worth several lakhs, sources said.
According to reports Mohd. Firoz had conducted a series of burglaries in different parts of Port Blair city. Mohd. Firoz is also believed to the person behind several pending cases day light chain snatching in these Islands. According to sources, Mohd. Firoz is the person, who had conducted series of burglaries in Dugnabad and Round Basti Areas of Port Blair city, which gave sleepless nights to residents of the area.
Sources said that to catch this Burglar, the Superintendent of Police of South Andaman Mr. Chinmoy Biswal had set several traps and also developed intelligence about the movement of suspected persons in city.
Following information gathered by the Burglary Squad and PS Aberdeen about the presence of a suspected person in Azad Lodge of Port Blair city, the Police team raided the room of Mohd. Firoz and recovered golden ornaments worth several lakhs, however the SP was unavailable to comment on this issue. Sources told Andaman Sheekha that Mohd. Firoz, who is actually from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, has been coming to Andaman since 1993 to carry out Burglary.
He used escape to Lucknow after committing crimes and used to sell all the stolen properties, including gold ornaments in both Lucknow and Port Blair.
Some golden ornaments, which Firoz has kept in his residence, Lucknow are still to be recovered.
It has been learnt that from the luggage of Firoz a flight ticket of 12th August 2013 to Mainland India was found by police. Firoz has been sent to 14 day Judicial Custody.
Appreciable achievement by andaman police. I dont know why andaman administration is allowing these migrants to come and settle in andaman just like people from west bengal border area. These people are creating inconveniance to local people. Administration must take some action to eradicate these people from our island.
