Port Blair, Aug 11: The parents of students studying in Govt. Schools of Havelock are on a strike for the welfare of their school going children. In their letter to the Director of Education with copies to the Lt. Governor, Chief Secretary, Education Secretary and others, the parents have demanded for well equipped Science Laboratory, regular teachers for physics, Biology and Chemistry, increase of class rooms in GSS Havelock, GMS Krishnanagar and Kalapatthar, GPS Havelock, shortage of teachers in all the schools, appointment of Vice Principal in the existing vacancy, RCC fencing to all schools under GSSS Havelock, separate toilet blocks for girl and boy students, kitchen shed for preparing midday meal, and upgrading of Hindi medium and English medium secondary schools to Sr. Sec Schools etc.
The strike started yesterday and will continue upto 12th August, 2013 and in case their demands are not fulfilled they will go for hunger strike from 13th August, 2013 onwards, it is learnt. Mrs. Jyotsna Biswas, Mrs. Anjana Baroi, Mrs. Ranjana Singadar and Mrs. Meera Dhali are leading the strike.
