Port Blair, August 8: The Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) A K Singh, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, visited Baratang and Kadamtala on August 7, 2013. He interacted with the people and discussed their problems at Kadamtala Guest House. He visited the Phooltala field camp site of AAJVS. He also took a round of the school, where he was apprised of the shortage of teachers. He directed the Education department to appoint concerned teachers on contract till the vacancies are sanctioned.
Later, he held a meeting with the public and PRI members at the Forest Club, Baratang. Various issues/problems of the people of Baratang Island were raised in the meeting. On the way back, he inspected the jetties at Uttra, Gandhighat, Nilambur and Middle Strait. The Lt Governor inquired about the conditions of vehicle ferries and directed that immediate steps be taken to improve facilities at these jetties.
The Chief Secretary, Principal Conservator of Forest, DG Police and other senior officers of the Administration were present.
