Port Blair, August 05: The Communist Party of India (Marxist), Andaman & Nicobar State Organising Committee has demanded immediate implementation of the Food Security measures to provide for sufficient food grains through fair price shops to all the people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
In a resolution adopted in the meeting of the Andaman and Nicobar State Organising Committee of the CPI (M) held today (04.08.2013) at Port Blair, it was noted that the Ordinance promulgated by the central government to implement the Food Security is full of loopholes which will not ensure sufficient foodgrains to the people in the country and demanded extensive amendments before it is introduced in the Parliament.
Through another resolution, the CPI (M) State Organising Committee meeting expressed serious concern over the increasing corruption in the islands and the utter failure of the A & N Administration and central agencies to contain it. While government officers are involved in corrupt practices in their departments, elected representatives in the Panchayat-raj institutions and Port Blair Municipal Council are openly indulging in corruption, nepotism, mismanagement of public money with the support of ruling party politicians.
The CPI (M) observed with concern that efforts are being made by the Congress (I) party to divide people on regional lines by organizing Conferences and meetings of certain communities. The harmony prevailing in these islands, irrespective of people belonging to various linguistic communities, should be maintained at any cost and the efforts on the part of ruling party to break it should not be allowed.
