Port Blair, Jul 31: The All India Mahila congress committee’s National Council meeting was organized at Navotel Hotel, Juhu Beach, Mumbai from 9th the 11th July, 2013 which was attended by the Presidents of Mahila Congress Committees of all the States and UTs. Mrs. Shanta Laxman Singh, President, State Mahila Congress Committee attended the meeting from Andaman and Nicobar Islands. In the meeting, Mrs. Shanta Singh raised the necessity to establish women commission in this Union territory which is a long pending demand of the womenfolk of these islands. Mrs. Singh also said that widows from all over India must be exempted from paying property tax.
She also stated that though it was notified by the Gov. of India a long back that the Southernmost tip of India is the last point of our Country which has been named as Indira Point but to her great regret, till date Kanyakumari is stated to be the last point of India by many National channels and others and thus, Mrs. Shanta told that suitable action needs to be taken to rectify such errors.
All the members present in the meeting accepted the proposals submitted by Mrs. Singh. In the meeting, other than other issues, it was also resolved that all the Presidents of Mahila congress committees along with their members should go from door to door and act for the welfare and up liftment of the womenfolk, specially the rural womenfolk, irrespective of caste, language and religion etc and to solve their grievances.
The meeting was Chaired by the Chief Minister of Maharastra Mr. Prithviraj Chavan. Mrs. Janeth D’Souja, President, Mahila Congress Committee, Mumbai welcomed the participants while Mrs. Anita Verma, President, All India Mahila congress Committee proposed the vote of thanks.
