Port Blair, July 30: The Disaster Management Directorate in association with the Police unit led by the SHO shri Lallan Yadav and Fire Services, conducted mock drill at the Government Senior Secondary School Lapathy today.
The Resource persons trained the students about the safety measures to be taken during Earth Quakes. The students asked their doubts freely, during the training session. The drill began at 11 am with the ringing of the alarming bell. Students acted promptly and responded accordingly what they were taught in the session .First they followed the safety norms and then came out of the room and proceeded towards the evacuation route to reach to the safer place.
The student members of the Task Force rushed into each class room to search the injured students. They lifted the injured students and brought them to the ground where they were given first aid. The seriously injured students were taken to the ambulance. The students’ performance was quite satisfactory. The Resource Persons pointed out the mistakes committed by the students during the drill, during the follow up session. The AD of the Disaster Management department Shri Gyan singh asked the students to practise the taught tricks at home and make their family members aware of the safety measures.
In his Address the Vice Principal of the school Shri P. Abdul Rehman said that the school’s teachers quite often conduct the theoretical classes to make the students aware of the precautionary measures to be taken during the disaster like Earth Quake and this kind of practical training is very beneficial.
After the Mock drill the Car Nicobar Unit of Fire Services demonstrated the use of their modern equipments which are used by them at time of calamity. The Station Officer Shri Dilip Karmakar demonstrated the working of Power Chain Saw, Air Lifting Bag,
Hydraulic Spreader & Cutter etc; which was a new learning experience for the students and they were very excited to see the lively display.
