Port Blair, July 28: Kuldeep Rai Sharma, PCC President has demanded for setting up of information center at Port Blair in respect of inter island boat services and mainland based shipping schedules.
In his letter to the Chief Secretary, the PCC Chief stated that though the schedules of inter island boat services and to and fro services of mainland based ships are flashed in various print and electronic media but it is not sufficient.
Giving the cause behind it, Sharma has stated that many times getting the information of such schedules the people reach to the embarkation spot and find that due to some administrative, technical problems or other reasons the stated schedules have been withdrawn making the passengers stranded.
Such sudden changes of schedules become more painful to such passengers who are proceeding for medical treatment or checkups, or elderly persons, women and children. Many such passengers even stranded for not having the place of stay of their own.
Further to it, for getting another means of transport to go back , they have to incur extra expenditure. Sharma, pleading for all the passengers, who avail the services of inter island boat services or mainland based shipping services, stated that if a well equipped information centre for these services are provided, people may get proper information of their journey through phone and then proceed to the spot of embarkation.
