Port Blair, July 21: The Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) A K Singh, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, visited Havelock yesterday. He held a meeting with the PRI members at Dolphin Resort wherein various issues and problems faced by the people were discussed. He sought the active support of the PRI members in this regard. Chief Secretary and other senior officers of the Administration were present. He observed that tourism was the mainstay of Havelock Island, and directed that an overall development plan be made for the Island, in consultation with all Stake holders. Tourism Department of the Administration will be the nodal Department in this regard. He also announced that the Administration will take immediate steps to see that Havelock Island is upgraded to a sub-division.
Later on, he held a meeting with the Hotels/Resorts representatives and heard their suggestions. The Lt Governor also visited Radhanagar beach and issued directions for proper upkeep of the beach with proper signages and effective life guards and marine patrols. Facilities should be eco-friendly and in harmony with the surroundings.
The Lt Governor directed the APWD to work out an action plan for immediate improvement in the road conditions, wherein provision should also be made for walkways alongside, for pedestrians and cyclists.
