Port Blair, July 18: Several versions of stories about possible terrorist attack and presence of terrorists in these Islands have keep Andaman & Nicobar Islands busy. Almost every Islander has his/her own version of story regarding terrorist, ready, which they generously narrate to others to gain importance and horrify public.
Some of the Rumours, we repear, RUMOURS, which are doing rounds are “Five Terrorists have already entered A & N Islands” “Terrorists will blast bombs on 15 August” “Four Suspected persons have been picked up by Police from South Point/ Mayabunder/ Rangat ( P.S. Change the name of the place as per your convenience)” “The Education Department will declare holiday for all school from August 1st to 15th 2013, considering the threat”.
Rumours are coming out more from schools and offices and these all are happening just because the Administration has failed to inform public about the actual position clearly and has also failed to take media in confidence.
Whatever press releases have been issued by Administration till now are either too confusing or too technical.
As far as Andaman Sheekha is concerned, we appeal all the Islanders to stay calm and not to pay any heed to rumours or spread the rumours, as till there is only a threat of intrusion, nothing else.
The Administration must also appeal to public through electronic and print media to stay away from rumours as such rumours may trigger panic among islanders, which may lead to a major tragedy.
