Port Blair, July 17: Three Myanmarese prisoners of District Jail Prothrapur who had escaped in a jailbreak on 1st July have been apprehended by Police from Burmanallah forest area today. A case had been registered against them at PS Pahargaon u/s 224/34 IPC for escaping from lawful custody.
A massive search operation had been launched by Police teams comprising of over 100 personnel drawn from police stations Pahargaon, Aberdeen, Humpfrigunj, Chatham, CCS and CID, besides recruit trainees of PTS, who combed the entire forest areas from Rangachang to Wandoor. With the help of information gathered on sighting of the escaped prisoners, the police teams finally cordoned off the forest stretch in Burmanullah to Munda Pahad.
Early this morning (17.07.2013), the teams zeroed onto an area near Burmanallah and successfully surrounded the trio. In the chase, DySP N. Rasheed, who was leading a search party was injured and dislocated his shoulder. During the operations four rounds were also fired.
The police teams were led by Insp. D.J. Rao, SHO Aberdeen, SI P.K. Abdul Arif, SHO Pahargaon, Insp. R.K. Sharma, SHO CCS, SI T. Hemawati, SHO Humfrygunj and ASI M.A. Rasheed of Anti-burglary Squad, under the direct supervision of DySP/SA Mr. N. Rasheed and overall supervision of the District Superintendent of Police, Mr. Chinmoy Biswal, IPS.
Of the three, two prisoners Taung Shwe (31) and Nayhla Min Aung (23) are under-trial in a case under Foreigner’s Act, while Foe Poe (29) had been convicted on 6th June 2013 in MZI Act and Foreigner’s Act.
“We are grateful to general public for all valuable information and cooperation, which made apprehension of all three prisoners possible, despite difficult terrains,” Superintendent of Police (District) Mr. Chinmoy Biswal, IPS told Andaman Sheekha today.
