Sri Vijaya Puram, November 3: The CITU Andaman & Nicobar State Committee has demanded the disbursement of monthly wages for the month of October 2026 to all the daily rated mazdoors working in various departments of the Administration before the Diwali festival. In a letter sent to the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Mr. B. Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, CITU State Committee, said that Diwali, which falls on November 8, is an important festival in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. People cutting across religion and region celebrate this festival in this Union Territory.
The CITU General Secretary said that the monthly wages of the daily rated workers working in various departments under the Administration are normally drawn and paid to them only after the 10th day of every succeeding month. If the monthly wages are not paid to these daily rated workers before the Diwali festival, they may not be able to celebrate the festival, as almost all of them belong to poor families and are the single earning members of their families.
Mr. Chandrachoodan requested the Chief Secretary to issue necessary directions to all Heads of Departments/Heads of Offices under the Administration to disburse the monthly wages to the daily rated workers before the Diwali celebration so that these workers can also celebrate the festival with joy and enthusiasm.
