Sri Vijaya Puram, October 25: The South Andaman Rural Area Committee of CPI (M) conducted three days of corner meetings and mike announcements in different parts of rural South Andaman from 22nd to 24th October, 2026. The areas covered during the programme were Bambooflat, Stewartgunj, Wimberlygunj, Kanyapuram, Mannarghat, Shoal Bay, Ferrargunj, Chouldhari, Ograbraj, Tushnabad, Tirur, Collinpur, Mithakhari, Namunaghar, Brindaban, etc.
D. Laxman Rao, Secretary, South Andaman Rural Area Committee; P. Sathyapal, State Secretariat Member; and Area Committee Members S. Chidambaram and K.G. Samkutty addressed the corner meetings, which evoked a strong positive response from the people.
Addressing these corner meetings, CPI (M) leaders criticised the Central Government for its failure to control the spiralling prices of essential commodities, especially the prices of LPG cylinders, petrol and diesel. CPI (M) leaders also came down heavily on the Modi government for its failure to create new jobs for the youth and said that government jobs are being outsourced. CPI (M) also demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the scrapping of the SIR. About 50,000 people (excluding the death cases) have been removed from the electoral rolls of A&N Islands through SIR.
Referring to the failure of the A & N Administration and the Panchayati Raj institutions, which are controlled by the Congress Party and BJP, to provide drinking water to the people, CPI (M) leaders said that drinking water was being supplied once in five days during the summer season. CPI (M) leaders also expressed concern over the frequent electricity cuts resorted to by the Electricity Department in recent months.
