Port Blair, Jul 4: Mr. B.P Ray batting for the Punjabi setters of the Great Nicobar Islands had personally taken up the matter of reissue of one MBBS seat in “Baba Farid University Medical Health and Science University, Faridcot” in tsunami quota with Mr. Prakash Singh Badal, Chief Minister of Punjab after which the MBBS seats has now been re-allotted.
Mr. Ray informed that Punjabi Settlers of Great Nicobar Islands were settled in 1969 under the rehabilitation scheme of Govt, of India. The Tsunami waves hit the Great Nicobar areas and badly destroyed, uprooted each and every family. Taking into view such tragic devastation the then Punjab Govt, and Ahromani Parbandhak Committee
Amritsar helped the victims and provided 1 MBBS seats in Punjab in “Baba Farid University Medical Health And Science University, Faridcot”.
According to reports the matter was also prominently highlighted by the President of Pradesh Congress Committee Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma and the Lt. Governor of A & N Islands, Lt. Gen (Retd.) Bhopinder Singh.
