
Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 5: The Chief Secretary, Mr. Gyanesh Bharti met the Lt. Governor, A&N Islands, Dr. Dinesh Sharma at Lok Niwas, Sri Vijaya Puram, today and apprised him of the progress of various ongoing works being undertaken by the A&N Administration. During the meeting, the issues raised by the public during recent visits of the Lt. Governor to various places were also brought to the attention of the Chief Secretary, and he was requested to direct the concerned Departments to complete the works related to these issues at the earliest. The Chief Secretary was also directed to ensure physical verification of the works after their completion.
On the occasion, the Electricity Department, A&N Administration, made a detailed presentation on the progress of various LNG-based power plants and major initiatives in the power sector. These initiatives aim to ensure reliable, efficient and sustainable power supply across the Islands, reduce dependence on diesel-based power generation, and strengthen power infrastructure across the Islands. The presentation was attended by Chief Secretary, Mr. Gyanesh Bharti; Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Dr. Sachin Shinde; Secretary (Power), Mr. Pravesh Jha, Secretary to the Lt. Governor, Ms. Jyoti Kumari, Special Secretary, Mr. Apurva Sharma, among others.
In this series, a delegation led by Captain Mr. Lionel Nicomed, Chief Captain, Tribal Council, Car Nicobar, paid a courtesy call on the Lt. Governor. The delegation comprised of Deputy Vice Chief Captain, Mr. John Levi, Executive Members, Mr. Lucas Robert and Mr. Mohammad Amin Moosa. The delegation held detailed discussions with the Lt. Governor on the key developmental requirements of the island and sought his support and guidance on issues including enhancement of ship connectivity, expediting the dredging of Mus Jetty to make it navigable, ensuring the availability of essential medical equipment and facilities at BJR Hospital, Car Nicobar, and establishing a mechanism for the mechanized cleaning of septic tanks on the island. The Lt. Governor heard the concerns of the delegation patiently and directed the concerned Departments to take expeditious action and conduct physical verification of the issues raised.
In the same sequence, the Lt. Governor also had courtesy meetings with Mr. Vivek Dadhakar, former Organization Secretary, BJP; Captain (IN) (Retd.) Davinder Singh Gehlot, National Coordinator, Bharat Bharati; and Mr. Vinay Patrale, National President, Bharat Bharati.
