
Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 30: The Department of Tamil, Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya, observed World Translation Day 2026 with an academic programme at the Lecture Gallery on Wednesday.
Dr. R. P. Palanisamy, Head, Department of Tamil, delivered the welcome address and highlighted the role of translation in preserving linguistic and cultural heritage.
Dr. Pearl Devdas, Principal, JNRM, presided over the programme and delivered the Presidential Address. She launched the e-book ‘Mozhipeyarppatrupadai’, authored by Dr. Tamil Bharathan T. K., Assistant Professor of Tamil, and presented it to Dr. K. Rajmohan, Associate Professor. She emphasised translation as a bridge between Indian literary traditions and global intellectual discourse and highlighted Government of India initiatives for promoting Indian languages.
Dr. N. Lakshmi, Associate Professor, Department of Hindi, spoke on Tamil–Hindi translation. Dr. J. Tirupathi, Guest Faculty, Department of Tamil, discussed translation and linguistic authenticity, while Dr. Ramesh Pulivarthi, Guest Faculty, Department of Telugu, spoke on Telugu translation and linguistic connections among Indian languages.
The programme concluded with an interactive discussion and vote of thanks.
