
Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 28: The Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRC A&N Islands), in association with G.B. Pant Hospital, MY Bharat and Tele-MANAS, organised a Mental Health Awareness Programme-cum-General Health Check-up at CRC, Brookshabad, with the objective of promoting holistic physical and mental well-being among Divyangjan and their family members and caregivers. Mrs. Sumithamol S., Director, CRC A&N Islands, delivered the Welcome Address, extending a warm welcome to the dignitaries, participating Divyangjan, parents and caregivers. In her address, she highlighted the importance of integrated physical and mental healthcare and expressed appreciation to the collaborating departments and professionals for their support in making such community-oriented initiatives meaningful and accessible.
The programme was graced by Dr. Prabir Kumar Palit, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Garacharma District Hospital, Sri Vijay Puram, along with Mr. Deepak Kumar, District Youth Officer, and Mr. Gopal Biswas, MY Bharat. Representing Tele-MANAS, Directorate of Health Services, Ms. Shyamali Singh, Psychologist, and Ms. Madhavi Nambiar, Counsellor, interacted with the participants and sensitised them on psychological aspects, emotional well-being, stress management and the importance of seeking timely professional support. The session also included counselling and awareness on suicide prevention, in observance of World Suicide Prevention Day, with emphasis on recognising emotional distress and seeking appropriate help and support.
Meanwhile, Dr. Prabir Kumar Palit, CMO, Garacharma District Hospital, conducted a free general health check-up for Divyangjan and their parents/caregivers. The health services included assessment of blood pressure, blood sugar, height and weight, along with medical consultation and necessary guidance. The initiative provided an opportunity for participants to address their physical and mental health concerns and reinforced the importance of regular health screening and comprehensive family support.
The programme reflected the continued commitment of CRC A&N Islands towards the holistic health, well-being and empowerment of Divyangjan and their families through coordinated efforts with healthcare professionals, Tele-MANAS, MY Bharat and other stakeholders. The active participation of more than 60 Divyangjan and their parents/caregivers contributed significantly to the successful conduct of the programme. The event concluded with a reaffirmation of the importance of strengthening community-based support systems and ensuring that mental health and physical health remain integral components of an inclusive and dignified life for every Divyangjan and their family.
